Horse trials is a spectacular sport.  It has many elements, and it has broad community appeal.  Competitors and spectators are drawn from a diverse background - the farming sector, regional areas, metropolitan and urban communities.  Contrary to some expectations, it is not a sport restricted to only the wealthy competitor; and competitors include both 'professional' horse people and the keen 'amateur'.  It is a sport that encourages animal welfare, sportsmanship and is a great 'leveller', where all participants at all grades learn to cope with the ups (eg completing a course, placing etc) and downs (having to withdraw or retire and not finish).  

Sponsors are crucial to running horse trials.  Without sponsors it is questionable whether this Olympic level sport would be able to be run at the community level.
