SAHT Inc will add on-line articles to this list from time to time, in the interests of the promoting safety, skills and knowledge in the sport of eventing.

'Is this sport safe enough'.  In addition to being a cardiologist, Rob Stevenson has worn many hats in the sport of eventing: rider, coach, parent, event organizer, team selector, and, for the past five years, National Safety Officer for Canadian Eventing. In response to recent posts addressing issues of risk management in eventing, he contributes this timely article highlighting the latest available statistics on eventing safety in the context of the discussion. There is a mighty international effort of ongoing study in this area but, as Rob notes, "there needs to be an enhanced effort to communicate the findings of the various research efforts from around the world to the very heart of our sport."

'Tips for Parents of Eventers'.  In this article Eventing parent Tracey White Giesler writes that eventing is not for the fainthearted. It is a demanding and dangerous sport. She gives good advice, including the importance of taking every precaution to be safe and ensure that your child has the best horse, equipment and instruction you can afford. "After being an Eventing mom for 10 years now, I am sharing what I have learned from the mistakes I have made and witnessed. Certainly, I made more mistakes than I witnessed and trust me I am still learning".

Now here is an interesting article on the use of studs.  Written in discussion with John Killingbeck, (FEI Vet) and Andrew Mahan, a farrier at Tatteralls.  There is a video showing stresses on the hoof, with and without studs, and a quote from Lucinda Green, who tested horses with one and two studs.  The jury is in.
